The Beauty of Sight

" The eyes are the window to your soul "

William Shakespeare

If you're like me you may have noticed that sadly, over time, the clarity of your vision has decreased. Perhaps you wear glasses or wear them when reading, driving or performing other tasks. But what if it's really possible to improve your eyesight and increase your visual appreciation of the world around you, which is filled with an immense richness of color, form, texture and detail.

Dr. William Bates was an American physician who practiced Ophthalmology and developed a method known as the Bates Method in the early 1900s. His book, The Bates Method for Better Eyesight Without Glasses, is still available and there are currently many vision teachers who have based their work on the Bates Method, but have updated it.

About a decade ago, I decided to embark on the journey of improving my eyesight and purchased The Program For Better Vision from the Cambridge Institute for Better Vision. I experienced some results within a few weeks, but unfortunately didn't continue. Recently, as I was noticing an increase in blurry vision, I ordered the updated version of the program and have already seen changes.

While I don't pretend to understand the physiology associated with the remarkable phenomenon of vision, the ability to see seems to involve complex functions of the brain, as much as it does the organ of the eye itself. To produce sight, the eyes capture information and send it through the optic nerve to be processed by the occipital lobes.

So, we can think of  the eyes more as receivers of imagery and light. What natural eyesight teachers promote is really how to relax the eyes. And since the human body functions as a whole, that includes not just the eyes themselves, but our posture and so much more.

Think of the internal and external stress we are subject to, as well as the hours spent on the computer or under harsh lighting in our homes, schools and workplaces. Anyone who takes the health of their eyes seriously, starts to explore how to mitigate the harmful effect exposure to flickering blue light has on our eyes.

There are many people on the internet who provide information on healthier lighting options for our homes and there are many sites that sell blue blocking glasses. I'll put a link at the bottom of this post to a site that
has great low cost options allowing you to install an app with a filter that reduces the flicker rate and allows you to modify the excessive blue light glare of your computer screen.

I've said that our vision consists of the wonderful interplay between our eyes and our brain, but might there be more? What about inner sight and psychic sight? Is the ability to see located only within the body, or it more accurately said that it's a function of consciousness, which exists within and is also external to the physical vessel of the body. People who have had near death experiences report that they have been able to view and witness from above all that is occurring below, sometimes with a view of 360 degrees.

Our eyes and the eyes of our children deserve our care. Learn to send more love to your eyes. Nurture your physical vision, but also nurture and develop your inner sight. Honor, cultivate and strengthen your inner guidance system, which is essential for navigating through the myriad, challenging complexities of this world. And most importantly, it is your inner sight, your capacity to envision that allows you to bring into existence the world that you want to see.
